Joanna Krupa is striking back against critics who call her recent ad for PETA blasphemous.

The former Playboy model and “Dancing With the Stars” contestant posed nude for a new advertisement advocating pet adoptions. But her use of a strategically placed crucifix has sparked outrage from religious groups, including the Catholic League, which blasted the ad as inappropriate and exploitative, according to E Online. But Krupa, who is a Catholic, says the campaign is in line with her Christian beliefs.

“As a practicing Catholic, I am shocked that the Catholic League is speaking out against my PETA ads, which I am very proud of. I’m doing what the Catholic Church should be doing, working to stop senseless suffering of animals, the most defenseless of god’s creation,” she said in a statement. “It’s understandable that the Catholic League is wary of another sex scandal, but the sex we’re talking about pertains to dogs and cats.”
Krupa also posed nude as part of PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign.
